Andy Warhol was misquoted in the 1960s. What he really meant was: In the future, everyone in the Yakima Valley will operate a burger stand for 15 minutes.
Among the hamburger happenings over the past two months:
• Five Guys, the national chain, suddenly closed its 1901 S. First St. location in Yakima two weeks ago. Printed signs posted on the windows stating “This location is permanently closed” were the only explanation given.
• A second Wendy’s location is now open in the Yakima Valley, at 28 Adelyn Way in Union Gap, just north of Valley Mall Boulevard, near McCurley Subaru. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; call 509-834-7880.
• The former Burger Ranch site at the southeast corner of Mead and South First Street will soon have a new occupant. A banner proclaiming “Coming Soon: Dragon Sushi and Teriyaki” has been posted there.
• The vacant Sonic Drive-In at 1327 S. First St. is listed among the City of Yakima’s pending planning applications. Building permits have been requested by the property’s owner, Gc II LLC, and the site’s potential tenant, Sortis Holdings of Portland. The latter is associated with Burgerville restaurants in the Portland/Vancouver, area. Stay tuned …
