MBABANE- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and eating nutritious foods are essential for good health, whether one is living with HIV or not, and can significantly reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes.
This message was at the heart of World Vision Eswatini’s (WVE) participation in World Diabetes Day 2025, as the organization encouraged communities to embrace healthy living and indigenous foods for stronger, healthier lives.
The event, held on Friday, November 14,2025, at the Mbabane Municipal parking space, brought together the Ministry of Health, the Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan in Eswatini, and other partners to commemorate World Diabetes Day under the theme: “Eat right. Exercise more. Live healthy.”
World Vision Eswatini as a key implementer of the Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative Eswatini (TAVI), funded by the World Vegetable Center, engaged participants through information sharing and demonstrations, promoting indigenous seeds as a pathway to improved nutrition and community wellbeing.
Key stakeholders in attendance included the Minister for Health, Honourable Mduduzi Matsebula, Taiwan Ambassador HE Jeremy H. S. Liang, and Lungile Kubheka, representing HRH Princess Tsandzile. The event also highlighted WVE’s ENOUGH Campaign to end child hunger and malnutrition, which supports farmers and communities to grow and prepare nutrient-rich indigenous vegetables.
Other partners, including the National Emergency Response on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA), Georgetown University, and World Vision’s Halting the Spread of HIV Project, shared interventions aimed at reducing new HIV infections among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and their Male Sexual Partners (MSP). These programs reinforced the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and disease prevention as cornerstones of overall wellbeing.
World Diabetes Day, observed globally on 14th November, remains a key campaign for raising awareness about diabetes, emphasizing prevention, early detection, and the adoption of healthy lifestyles.
