PARKERSBURG, W. Va . (WTAP) – Small Business Saturday is fast approaching, but the holiday deals are in full swing at Crown Décor and Gifts.
The small business is the largest Christmas shop in the state of West Virginia according to its owner Keith McClung.
“We are stocked. I mean, I tell people we are stacked from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. I don’t think we can get much more in here… we have something for everybody,” McClung said.
25 years serving the Mid-Ohio Valley
McClung says the Crown Company has served the Mid-Ohio Valley for 25 years, originally starting off as a “small business marketing agency that turned into an event rental company, event production florist” and now McClung says he has found its sweet spot as “a full-scale home décor and gift company, as well as a full-service confectionery for the Mid-Ohio Valley.”
The small business is split up into two floors. Both floors are loaded with holiday décor, gifts and more.
“So of course, right now we’re known for all of our wonderful Christmas decorations. Over almost 9,000 square foot of Christmas decorations in our store.
The lower level also features the confectionery with over 40 flavors of Hershey’s hand-dipped ice cream and house made fudge.
McClung says last year they created over 26 tons of fudge.
Creating a nostalgic experience
McClung says they worked hard this year to create a nostalgic experience for guests when they walk in.
“We want people to walk in and we want it to be automatically nostalgic, and I think we hit the nail on the head this year. We’ve had people stand at the top of our steps to our lower level and just cry when they look at the animated displays that used to be in Bill’s department store downtown,” McClung said.
The small business experience doesn’t stop at displays. McClung says they deliver gifts to your door, offer free gift wrap service and have a points reward system.
“We gave away over $50,000 in rewards back to our customers this year alone. And that’s what the big box stores are not doing,” McClung said.
While the store has been transformed into a Christmas wonderland, McClung says they worked hard to carry every-day gifts that are not holiday themed.
“It’s the things that you want to give to people like candles and mugs and a lot of apparel this year. People have really been shocked about how much apparel we carry for all people in the family,” says McClung. “So, everything from Christmas designs to everyday designs. And we are one of the largest Simply Southern locations in the state of West Virginia,” McClung said.
Daily sales and holiday hours
McClung says the store has sales going on every day.
“And the number one thing is if you’re not part of our mailing list, come in and ask our crew for your sale flyer. It is 10 pages actually, just packed full of special offers, special prices, coupons, discounts, and free gifts,” says McClung. “That’s free to you, but you have to ask for it.”
As the days get closer to Christmas McClung says those sales and discounts will get lower.
“We encourage you, don’t wait. If you see something at Crown, you got to get it because things sell quickly,” McClung says.
He encourages customers to shop small businesses first.
“We see where national chains are actually not running the sales like they used to and their prices are higher. The tariffs have affected all of us,” says McClung. “So as a small business, we just ask that you support small first. You’re going to go to the big box stores. You are going to. You know what? I’m going to, too. But I’m going to try to support small first.”
Santa’s Secret Stash warehouse opens Saturday
New to the store this year is a warehouse McClung calls “Santa’s Secret Stash.”
“That warehouse is full of drop dead deals that Santa’s brought from the North Pole. Everything from blankets and tote bags to candles and you name it,” McClung said.
This new warehouse is set to open Shop Small Saturday weekend.
Crown Décor is open Black Friday and Shop Small Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Throughout the rest of the holiday season, the store is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
The stores address is 1933 Ohio Ave in Parkersburg.
