IOWA CITY, Iowa — A new business education center is in the works for the University of Iowa, creating a modern facility in Gilmore Hall while renovating the Pappajohn Business Building.
The school says these plans are pending Board of Regents approval, but they are excited to share a sneak peek.
“A student will be able to see, by standing in the new atrium, advising, the Frank Business Communication Center, career services, and student success resources,” Tippie School of Business Dean Amy Kristof-Brown said in an online article. “These thoughtful features are going to help pull their academic journey together and translate it into an effective internship, first job, and later, a fulfilling career.”
The design features an updated “business green” grass space, along with an atrium that serves as a meeting space and bridges that connect the buildings. Plans also feature active-learning classrooms, labs, an executive conference room, event space, and learning hub with coaching labs and co-working spaces.
“To support our growing Tippie College of Business programs, we are restoring a historic structure and connecting it to an updated, more recent iconic building,” University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson said in an online article. “In doing so, we are both honoring our past and advancing the future’s leading edge.”
The Tippie family recently donated $20 million for the upgrades with the help of Iowa City’s Neumann Monson Architects. The full cost of the upgrades are an estimated $60 million.
