COVENTRY, Conn. (WFSB) – Two police departments have issued arrest warrants and multiple state agencies are investigating Mitch T. Kloter, a Coventry man running an unlicensed transport business.
The I-Team first reported on Kloter’s business, known either as Eastern Rentals and Transportation or Eastern Transportation and Rentals, last month.
Under Connecticut law, you need several licenses and permits to operate a transportation service in the state. Neither Kloter nor any of his business names has ever been licensed or registered with the state.
At least 15 people have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, saying they paid Kloter to drive them to the airport, only for him not to provide the service they paid for.
Shortly after our I-team report, state republicans sent a letter to commissioners at the Department of Consumer Protection and Department of Transportation asking for answers.
In response to the letter from Republicans, the Department of Consumer Protection now says that they, along with the Department of Transportation, the Better Business Bureau, State Police, and local law enforcement, have open investigations into Kloter and his business.
“We have identified an unusual pattern of complaints concerning this individual and potentially fraudulent business practices,” DCP said.
DCP also says the Middletown Police Department and the East Lyme Police Department have issued active arrest warrants for Kloter on charges of criminal fraud and larceny.
If you believe you are a victim of a fraudulent transportation service, you should contact your local police department, DCP, or DOT.
