Taylor Swift's date night necklace sent this small business soaring

Two small business owners checked a “Wi$h Li$t” item off that they never saw coming when Taylor Swift wore one of their diamond necklaces on a date night with fiancé Travis Kelce.

On Nov. 5, the newly engaged couple walked hand-in-hand in New York City. Paparazzi caught photos of them outside of The Polo Bar, dressed in coordinated black-and-gray looks. Swift wore an off-the-shoulder Alaïa top and Stella McCartney wool trousers, but it was her jewelry that carried the sentimental sparkle, a diamond lock necklace from Audry Rose.

The boutique fine-jewelry brand was founded by husband and wife team Jaclyn and Kevin Elbaum, who launched the company 10 years ago.

“She could have hit me up and been like, ‘Can I have that necklace for free?’ I would have been like, ‘F*** yeah, you’re Taylor Swift,'” Jaclyn Elbaum told the USA TODAY Network over Zoom. “The fact that she just bought it and then wore it is just really cool.”

The Elbaums named their company after Jaclyn’s grandmother who was a pioneering fashion entrepreneur. The couple started the business in Los Angeles and later moved to Park City, Utah, where they continue to design every piece by hand.

“This was one of the pieces that was really special to me,” Jaclyn said of the lock necklace. “I sat with the jeweler for five hours so he could carve it exactly the way I wanted. The chain was inspired by an antique watch chain. It’s not like a regular cable chain you can find all over.”

For Kevin, the moment felt surreal. “People are buying the necklace,” he said admitting the company’s website traffic surged sevenfold.

Kevin recorded a video posted to Instagram the moment Jaclyn found out that Swift wore the $7,800 necklace. The caption reads in part, “After 10 years of hard work, and all the nonsense that comes with running a small business, what a beautiful moment of pure joy.”

The Elbaums say Swift’s support of a small business speaks volumes.

“I think it’s clearly a conscious effort by her,” Kevin said. “Not a lot of celebrities would do that.”

When asked what she would tell Swift if given the chance, Jaclyn said, “Now I’m getting tear-eyed, I would just love to thank her.”

Their brand is built on heirloom craftsmanship, and they said it feels poetic that Swift chose a lock necklace, a symbol of love and permanence, during her engagement era.

“Jewelry is forever,” Jaclyn said. “It celebrates special moments in life.”

“We upgraded the spring inside to a 14-carat gold, because we care about the idea that it lasts through the years,” Kevin added.
