RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is calling on shoppers across South Dakota to support local businesses during Small Business Saturday, on Nov. 29.
“South Dakota’s small businesses are the backbone of our communities,” said NFIB State Director Jason Glodt. “They invest in our towns, our schools, and our little league sports. This Saturday, let’s give back to our small businesses and choose to shop local to ensure the American Dream thrives right here on our prairies.”
The push to shop local comes as small businesses face economic challenges. According to NFIB’s October Small Business Optimism Report, a net negative 13 percent of owners reported higher sales over the past three months, down six points from September. Small Business Saturday offers a chance to boost sales and strengthen local economies.
Launched in 2010 to help businesses recover from the Great Recession, Small Business Saturday has grown into a nationwide movement. Last year, shoppers spent an estimated $22 billion at locally owned businesses across the U.S. Every purchase made on Nov. 29 sends a powerful investment directly into South Dakota communities.
