SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says one person has been taken to the hospital following a Saturday evening shooting.
Deputies said the shooting was reported around 7 p.m. at a business near U.S. 521 and Race Track Road. The sheriff’s office said deputies arrived at the business and found a victim who had been shot. Authorities said that the victim was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital and, as of 10:30 p.m., that person’s condition wasn’t publicly available.
Details regarding what led up to the shooting were not available in Saturday night’s update, but the sheriff’s office said more would be provided as the investigation continues. In the meantime, investigators urge anyone with information to call the sheriff’s office at 803-436-2000. Tipsters can call 911 after hours or in an emergency and provide tips anonymously through the P3 mobile app.
The incident on U.S. 521 is the second shooting in Sumter County on Saturday. A 36-year-old man was flown to a Florence hospital following a shooting in the city of Sumter that happened earlier in the afternoon. The Sumter Police Department is the lead investigating agency in that incident and is working to determine where it occurred.
