Spectrum unveils Spectrum App Store

It can be hard to know where to watch what you want to watch.

Now, Spectrum is offering its customers a new way to simplify what can oftentimes feel like a complicated process.

Thursday, Spectrum – the parent company of Spectrum News – unveiled its Spectrum App Store, a digital marketplace aimed at making it easier, and more cost-effective, for Spectrum TV customers to manage and watch streaming apps.

“The Spectrum App Store, it’s exciting because one, it highlights all the apps that are included within your package. We’re the only distributer that includes great apps like ESPN Unlimited or Fox One, Paramount+,” said Rich DiGeronimo, president of product and technology at Spectrum. “The other thing is, if you want to live without ads, you’re able to do that. You can easily upgrade to an ad-free version of your apps.”

Spectrum TV subscribers will now have access to multiple streaming services as part of their package.

Chris Winfrey, the president and CEO of Charter Communications, said the company is looking to give viewers options.

“This full expanded package, $100-plus that includes all this, it’s great value. But we’re also selling, mostly in retention, is to have a skinny bundle and then in addition to that, have the a-la-carte, direct-to-consumer apps available as well,” Winfrey said.

The goal is “seamless entertainment,” giving subscribers both live TV and access to popular streaming apps, trying to simplify a fragmented media landscape.

“Customers in some ways are paying twice. To pay twice for the same content, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” DiGeronimo said.

Take the Knicks, for instance. The first four games of the upcoming season are on four different channels — and three different apps. Spectrum says with this app store, it will become easier for all fans to find what they’re looking for.

“You shouldn’t have to go hunt and peck, or say, ‘Oh man, I need to go cancel a subscription this month and then add it the next month,” DiGeronimo said. “We want to provide great value, so all those apps are included to make it really simple for customers to just be entertained.”
