As consumers get enticed by Black Friday deals, Small Business Saturday is there to remind them of the local businesses that help make Shreveport/Bossier a unique place.
For Shreveport Biscuit Company owner, Kanya Michelle, this Small Business Saturday has additional significance. It’s the two-year anniversary of her brick-and-mortar shop, Local Market On Line.
The small, charming store, tucked in between Timeline Antiques and Dripp Donuts on Line Ave., has evolved in its two years.
“I always thought we’d be a more market and ‘grab and go’ biscuit bakery, but it turns out folks want to hang out and dine in,” said Michelle.
The shop now has more seating and a bigger breakfast and lunch selection, as well as locally grown produce.
Michelle knows that Small Business Saturday can be a kick start to the holiday shopping season, “I hope to get people excited about locally grown fall and winter produce, our fresh baked biscuit breakfast, and locally made products great for gifting.”
Clean Slate Botanicals owner Ben Whalen just finished spending the weekend with his wife, Haley Brooke, at the holiday shopping event, Les Boutiques de Noel, “Being engaged in community events allows us to see and meet so many people.”
He knows that Small Business Saturday is an opportunity for the community to appreciate businesses like his, “Small Business Saturday is all about the little guy, which is truly woven into the fabric of our city.”
