US corporate bankruptcies hit highest level since Great Recession
The first three months of 2025 saw the highest number of companies filing for bankruptcy in the U.S. since 2010.

Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture stores across the United States are conducting going-out-of-business sales after their parent company, American Signature Inc., announced a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing last November.
According to a Jan. 9 news release from American Signature Inc., the company received bankruptcy court approval for going-out-of-business sales at its 89 remaining U.S. locations.
The inventory for sale, which includes home furnishings, décor, lighting, mattresses and rugs, is being sold at a discount of up to 50%, with all sales being final, the company said in the release.
The sales follow American Signature Inc.’s attempt to find a buyer after filing for bankruptcy in November 2025, but it failed to do so. With sales taking place across the country, here is what customers need to know, including where said sales are happening.
