Second Counterfeit $100 Bill Reported At Oxford Business

OXFORD, CT — Oxford police say a second counterfeit $100 bill complaint has been reported within a week, prompting a renewed warning to local businesses to closely inspect cash transactions.

The Oxford Police Department said it was notified of a new incident involving the attempted use of a counterfeit $100 bill at Jersey Mike’s Subs in Oxford. The incident occurred Thursday night, according to police.

In that case, an employee identified the bill as fraudulent and refused to complete the transaction. No loss was reported.

Police said the Jersey Mike’s incident marks the second counterfeit currency complaint received by the department in the past week. The earlier case involved counterfeit $100 bills reported at Market 32 on Main Street.

Officials said both investigations remain active.

Police are asking all Oxford businesses to alert their employees and to carefully check large-denomination bills. While recent incidents have involved $100 bills, officers stressed that caution should be used when accepting any cash denomination.

Anyone who encounters a suspected counterfeit bill is asked to contact the Oxford Police Department immediately.
