ORANGE, Texas — Robert’s Meat Market will shut its doors permanently on Dec. 31, ending a 45-year run in the community, the owners announced Sunday.
Robert and Becky plan to retire after more than four decades of operating the business. The owners previously closed their attached steakhouse restaurant in August.
The market will open at 9 a.m. Monday instead of 8 a.m. to prepare for a final sale. Grocery items and drinks will be discounted by 50 percent, though meat products will not receive the markdown.
Ground chuck purchases will be limited to five pounds per customer.
“It is with a heavy heart to tell everyone that as of December 31, 2025, Robert’s Meat Market will close,” the owners said in their announcement. “Robert and Becky are wanting to fully retire. These two people have worked hard for the last 45 years and very well deserve to relax.”
The closure follows the Aug. 16 shutdown of Robert’s Steakhouse, which faced operational challenges. The Steakhouse closed due to struggles with finding help and insufficient business.
“With the problems of finding help and just not enough business to sustain us, we had to make this really hard decision,” the owners said regarding the August steakhouse closure.
After closing the steakhouse, the business maintained a to-go window offering burgers, salads, steaks, fish and gumbo through a steamtable service alongside the meat market operations.
The owners thanked customers for their longtime support throughout both announcements.
“We thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your patronage,” the owners said in Sunday’s announcement.
