Having just Tuesday activated PayPal acceptance within the Perplexity.AI artificial-intelligence engine, electronics retailer Newegg is one of the first sellers to integrate PayPal Holdings Inc.’s agentic-commerce services.
This means consumers can discover and purchase Newegg products directly inside Perplexity and potentially other AI-shopping environments. A form of e-commerce, agentic commerce enables consumers to create an AI agent to find and present items fitting specific criteria they may eventually purchase. Perplexity announced its partnership with PayPal in May.
With the completion of the PayPal integration, Newegg says its product catalog and order-fulfillment services will be able to connect to AI-powered shopping platforms. Newegg customers will be able to discover Newegg products inside the AI search function and conversational experiences and complete the checkout inside these environments using PayPal.

It will also give consumers what Newegg calls an intent-driven shopping experience, different from using traditional search, browse, and cart functions. Shoppers using PayPal receive the usual complement of fraud protection, buyer’s rights, and dispute resolution from the digital-wallet provider.
Newegg says it remains the merchant of record for all transactions originating within AI platforms, which helps preserve its relationship with the consumer and keeps its brand visible.
PayPal is also working with Google Inc. on agentic commerce that will see the two cooperate on the new type of online shopping. Additionally, Google will embed PayPal’s payment technology across its family of products.
