Due to the nature of the contents on site, officials say they have requested residents to evacuate if they live within about 1/4 mile from 6400 53rd Street.
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Crews with the Pinellas Park Fire Department are battling a large fire at a business Friday night. Police said they are also on scene to assist.
The fire is in the area of 62nd Avenue and 53rd Street, officials say. Residents had initially noted a fog with an odor in the area.
After arriving, crews reportedly found a storage unit with a plume of smoke coming from it. Fire rescue officials said the business contains chemicals that could be hazardous.
Due to the nature of the contents on site, residents have been requested to evacuate if they live within about 1/4 mile from 6400 53rd Street.
For residents who do not have anywhere to go, Pinellas Park officials said they are providing a safe area at the Broderick Recreation Center.
As of Friday night, 62nd Avenue is closed between 58th Street and 49th Street.
Officials say one firefighter has been taken to the hospital and is stable.
