CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Global events dominated the conversation at a local event featuring a national leader on Friday morning.

Loeffler said Trump Administration policies have helped businesses like Amsted. “This is a story I see visit after visit across the country. They’re hiring, they’re investing, and they’re growing to expand economic opportunity across this country,” she said.
Company leaders seemed reluctant to say whether the Trump Administration’s tariffs were helping when asked about their net impact.
“The tariffs – um, they affect our customers, they affect our supply chain, but we are somewhat immune to it because we’ve been an American manufacturer for over 100 years,” Amsted Industries General Counsel member Chris Athas said.
“Right, but you’re also immune to it, right, because the president and the administration, working with the administrator has chosen what things to tariff and what things not to tariff,” Perry responded.
This comes as the Iran conflict intensifies and energy prices grow. Some people say that isn’t consistent with the “America First” agenda they voted for in 2024.
“In Pennsylvania, we live in a thing called the PJM, which schedules all our electric power. When you say people’s energy prices, I’m talking about electricity prices. They’ve been going up for about 10 or 11 years because of policies out of, quite honestly, I hate to be partisan, but they’re Democrat policies, whether at the state level or the federal level,” Perry said.
Perry said Republicans are focused on lowering prices by bringing down the supply of energy.
