Downtown Redding is gearing up for Small Business Saturday, with over 30 small businesses participating in a special passport event.

Shoppers can visit 10 locations, collect stamps and enter to win a prize. Passports can be picked up and dropped off at the IOOF Hall in Downtown Redding.

According to the Shasta Cascade Small Business Development Center, small business owners expect 20% of their annual revenue from this day.

Kassandra Warner, owner of ApricotLane Boutique, emphasized the personalized experience her store offers.

“If you’re shopping with me, I’m hand-selecting things, we have relationships, and you have a better experience shopping here than the big box stores,” Warner said.

Other vendors highlight the importance of supporting local businesses, which in turn supports community activities.

“It’s the small businesses who are supporting the little league, the fairs, all the little fundraisers that go on are usually supported by small businesses,” said Todd Franklin, owner of The Park Food Truck Hub.

Shoppers can also expect a variety of music playing all day, with 18 live concerts across two stages.

“We have put all the chips in the middle of the table; we are actually doing something that people said was impossible,” Franklin said.

He hopes to raise enough money on Small Business Saturday to add flushable bathrooms and a dance floor to downtown. An example of how shopping local helps the community.

Parking is free throughout downtown Redding this weekend.
