RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Rapid City Council voted unanimously to terminate plans to establish a Business Improvement District along Mount Rushmore Road.
This comes after landowners within the district filed a petition in opposition to the district’s establishment.
According to City Attorney Joel Landeen, councilors didn’t have a choice.
“Pursuant to state statute, the only option for the council at this point is to acknowledge that sufficient landowners have submitted a petition to protest creation of the district, and therefore, terminate the hearing and not create the district,” Landeen said.
Councilors thanked recently appointed members of the Mount Rushmore Road Business Improvement District Board for their efforts despite the decision.
