PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — 24-year-old Jobanpreet Singh has been sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years, for a homicide in 2023.

He was also sentenced to a consecutive 10 years on a separate conviction of manslaughter, bringing his total time in prison before he is eligible for parole to 35 years.
A jury convicted Singh of murder in the second degree, manslaughter in the first degree, four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of recklessly endangering another. Singh killed his former business partners, Dilrajpal Sing, and his brother Guriqbal Singh. Multnomah County said they were killed in the middle of a pending civil lawsuit filed addressing the business breakup.
“This heinous crime left two children without a father and parents without their sons. We are pleased that the court acknowledged the loss of both lives in her sentence. We wish the sentence was longer. But we also think accountability was delivered by the justice system today,” Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Mariel Mota said.
“Self-defense is not a law you can hide behind. It is meant to preserve life. This defendant took two lives, and he was held accountable for it,” Deputy District Attorney Eric Palmer stated.
Deputy District Attorney Bijal Patel and DDA Palmer assisted with the case. Singh was convicted on August 5.
