Carter stepped down after disclosing what the university called an “inappropriate relationship” with someone who was seeking public resources for a private business.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the first time Tuesday, Ohio State confirmed that a business registration tied to podcast host Krisanthe Vlachos is part of the ongoing review of Ted Carter’s resignation.
According to a business filing with the Ohio Secretary of State, Vlachos operates under the company name VETearnUSA LLC. The document lists the WOSU studio as the location tied to the business and shows the filing was made in December of last year. WOSU reported Tuesday, “She has contracted with WOSU to record the podcast at its studios.”
No one answered the door Tuesday at Carter’s Bexley home when 10TV went there seeking comment about his relationship with Vlachos.
Vlachos hosts “The Callout Podcast,” where Carter appeared several times. In one episode, recorded about nine months ago, Carter thanked the host during the program.
“Thank you Krisanthe and what a pleasure it is to be on this important podcast,” he said on the episode.
Carter appeared on the podcast multiple times, including episodes dating back to April 2024.
The connection between Carter, the podcast and its host also drew a response from JobsOhio, which acknowledged its sponsorship of the program.
In a statement posted Monday on X, the organization said: “JobsOhio is aware that Ted Carter resigned this morning as President of The Ohio State University, and that this situation is possibly connected to a relationship between him and the host of a podcast for veterans, which we sponsored.”
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for JobsOhio told 10TV, “We invested $15,000 per episode for production and promotion of a pilot series of four episodes as an opportunity to grow the military and veteran audience and connect them to our advanced aerospace and defense and energy sectors. One episode was completed. Ohio State is Ohio’s flagship university—its success is critical to economic growth in Ohio, and we will continue to be a strong partner with Ohio State. Any questions about the president’s resignation should be directed solely to the Ohio State University.”
Ohio State officials have not released additional details about the relationship or the scope of the investigation.
It’s not clear if Carter’s appearance alone on the podcast was the reason behind his decision to resign or if there was something additional.
10TV also learned Tuesday that the university’s transition plan on who will lead the university going forward is expected to be released before the end of this week.
