“I got a call at 3:15 early Sunday morning and the police department notified me of a pipe burst,” owner of Peak Lifestyle Tiffany Cruickshank said.
Cellphone video shows as water poured out from the ceiling of the Hinsdale store.
“Ninety percent of our merchandise, our apparel was out in the front. So, all of that was just soaking wet,” Cruickshank said. “The fire department of Hinsdale did a phenomenal job trying to help move everything. But I don’t know exactly how long the water was pouring out from the pipe before we got here.”
Cruickshank said it’s unclear if the pipe burst was weather related, given that it has been bitterly cold the last several days.
The majority of her merchandise is popular high-end apparel. She estimates thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to merchandise.
A tough pill to swallow, for the small business owner, whose shop has been open for four years.
The focus now is cleaning and rebuilding.
“I work every single day. There isn’t a weekend. I absolutely love it. This store was really near and dear to my heart,” Cruickshank said.
The owner hopes to have Peak Lifestyle back up and running in a few weeks.
In the meantime, they are encouraging customers to shop and support their other locations in the suburbs.
