MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Business owners at Oak Court Mall are operating in limbo as the shopping center prepares to close without a confirmed date.
Mall management has begun sending closure notices to tenants but has not provided a specific timeline, leaving business owners uncertain about their next steps.
“They have started sending out letters, letting us know that the mall is closing. We don’t know when the exact closing date is. We just know that they are closing,” said Tracy O’Mays, owner of Sassy Treats.
The uncertainty has created challenges for remaining tenants. Some stores have already packed up and left, while others wait for more information.
“It’s putting us in a bind. Because like I said, we still have to find somewhere to go, but when are we going to find somewhere to go?” OMays said.

Closing signs line several stores throughout the mall, and other storefronts sit empty. Customers frequently ask O’Mays about her plans.
“Everybody that comes up, right before they leave, they ask, ‘Where you going?’ We don’t know yet,” she said.
The Poag Development Group purchased Oak Court Mall in 2023. Two years later, the former Macy’s portion was demolished.

Plans to demolish the entire mall are scheduled to be discussed this year, according to the investment group. The future development is expected to include apartments and retail stores in a mixed-use format.
O’Mays said she moved her business from her home to the mall to gain more customers.
“It’s sad for me because I’m an upcoming entrepreneur. I’ve built something right here, and now it’s ending,” she said.
