MANITOWOC – Before we move our clocks ahead an hour this weekend, and days get longer — or before spring fever hits us all — here’s a quick look back at my top stories for the month of February.
I love that readers have invested in the journey of the tugboat assisting the “big blue” crane built in Manitowoc making its way up the West Coast. My updates on its travels was my top story for the month.

The Ocean Tower tug left “Crane 70” in tow from Manitowoc on Nov. 18. The tug ultimately will carry the crane to the Puget Sound Naval Base in Washington state. The boat recently passed San Francisco and could reach its new home in a few weeks.
But stay tuned! Another blue crane is set to make begin its travels to a home in Hawaii sometime this summer.
Making Manitowoc: Making Manitowoc series is making a comeback. Who should we feature?
Friday fish fries are about as dear to us Wisconsinites as cheese, the Green Bay Packers and beer. Both my callout and reader response asking for their go-to spot for a fish fry hit the mark! From The Fat Seagull to Green Street Food and Spirits, readers have strong feelings on the best place to go.
I also did a quick update on progress at the site of the former Mid-Cities Mall. The good news — construction of housing, retail and restaurant spots could begin soon. I also wrote a popular update on the apartments coming soon the former Mirro site in downtown Manitowoc.
We didn’t forget Two Rivers. In February, I did an update on business growth and the future of the city after talking with City Manager Kyle Kordell.
People checked into our story about a new discount store in Manitowoc. Dollar General announced a new store coming to 2067 N. Rapids Road, near the Covered Wagon restaurant, last fall. Construction is complete and the store now is open to customers.
Another well-read story concerned long-time business leader David Wage, who didn’t stay retired long.
“As some of you may know, I sold all of my business interests just over two years ago,” Wage shared on social media. “I quickly found out that I hated retirement! Having said that, I am happy to announce that I have completed a majority interest of Invincible Office Furniture Solutions. I can’t possibly express how excited I am to be back in the business world.”
That’s a bird’s-eye version of my top stories last month. I’m so grateful for your readership and interest in both my stories and what’s happening in your community. Please feel free to reach out with tips or ideas for future stories.
