Micron to sunset its Crucial consumer business

Micron will stop the sale of Crucial consumer products by 2026 to focus on AI-driven enterprise growth.

BOISE, Idaho — Micron, one of Boise’s most prominent businesses, announced on Wednesday that it will discontinue its Crucial-branded customer products.

The announcement states that the company will continue Crucial consumer product shipments through fiscal Q2, or February 2026.

The decision follows Micron’s commitment to “its ongoing portfolio transformation and the resulting alignment of its business to secular, profitable growth vectors in memory and storage,” according to a news release.

Micron aims to improve long-term business performance by “concentrating on core enterprise and commercial segments.”

“The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage,” Micron EVP and Chief Business Officer Sumit Sadana said. “Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.”

“Thanks to a passionate community of consumers, the Crucial brand has become synonymous with technical leadership, quality and reliability of leading-edge memory and storage products,” Sadana added. “We would like to thank our millions of customers, hundreds of partners and all of the Micron team members who have supported the Crucial journey for the last 29 years.”

Micron said it plans to do “redeployment” of team members to reduce impact, finding team members opportunities in open positions within the Boise-based company.

The news release also adds that these plans are tentative and constitute “forward-looking statements.” More information from Micron Technology is available here.
