Chandigarh, 26 February: The NCC (Army Wing) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised an awareness programme on ‘Healthy Lifestyle and Freedom from Substance Abuse’, under the aegis of 1 Chandigarh Girls Battalion NCC. The initiative aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and disciplined living among NCC cadets. The resource persons for the programme were Dr. Hemant Pareek, Clinical Nutritionist and Heart Health Educator, and Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, Head, Department of Public Administration and Coordinator, Skill Development Committee at the college.
Dr. Pareek delivered an insightful session on preventive healthcare, balanced nutrition, and heart health, emphasising the importance of sustainable lifestyle habits for maintaining a healthy mind and body. He reinforced the urgent need to combat substance abuse by empowering youth with awareness and self-discipline, highlighting how habits such as tobacco, alcohol, and drug consumption can gradually harm physical health, mental stability, and academic performance. Dr. Kaur conducted an engaging session on ‘Grow Your Own Nutrition’, highlighting the psychological and social causes of unhealthy living and encouraging cadets to adopt sustainable food practices for nutritional self-reliance. The cadets actively participated by identifying various plants and planting saplings with meaningful Hindi names, making the activity both educational and impactful.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the efforts of the NCC Army Wing and lauded the valuable contribution of the resource persons. She encouraged cadets to internalise the message of disciplined, substance-free living and to become ambassadors of health awareness in society.
