McDonald’s is planning a tremendous expansion, pricing adjustments and menu enhancements in 2026, according to reports.

The addition of more than 8,000 new restaurants across the globe is being reported, bringing the total to 50,000 locations by 2027, news outlets are reporting.

The initiative includes the opening of about 900 new restaurants in the U.S.

The plan is to position the fast-food company to attract value-focused consumers as it intensifies competition in high-growth international markets.

CEO Chris Kempczinski said in 2023 that there’s never been a better time to be a part of McDonald’s.

“We have a clear trajectory for future growth as we continue to build on the brand strength, global footprint, and digital ecosystem that have resulted in unparalleled competitive advantages and cemented McDonald’s as one of the world’s leading consumer-facing brands,” he told Newsweek.

New pricing guidelines for franchises are also coming this year, according to published reports.

While McDonald’s corporate will continue to oversee pricing, the company has previously stated that local differences are expected.

When it comes to the new additions to the menu, a few items from the now-defunct CosMc’s drink-based shops have been introduced in about 500 locations.

Look for the Strawberry Watermelon Refresher, Sprite Lunar Splash, the Toasted Vanilla Frappé, Popping Tropic Refresher and a Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew in some restaurants.

New sandwich options and chicken items are expected to be part of a forthcoming lineup as well, according to reports.

More chicken options will be added because customer demand for poultry now equals that of beef items, according to Mashed.

And the chain will continue its “Better Burger Initiative,” which focuses on improving burger preparation, implementing stricter food-handling standards and using fresher ingredients.
