DOLAN SPRINGS, AZ (AZFamily) — A man has been arrested after deputies say he shot at a good Samaritan before opening fire on a business from a “sniper position” in northwest Arizona.
Around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to a business near Pierce Ferry Road and 9th Street, in Dolan Springs, a small community north of Kingman. Deputies say a man in a “sniper’s position” was firing at the building.
When deputies arrived, they found 64-year-old Kevin Paul Barnes, of Dolan Springs, with a gun and ordered him to drop his weapon before detaining him, according to the sheriff’s department.
Detectives say the incident began when Barnes pulled over with a flat tire, and a man stopped to help. The man told authorities Barnes started “shouting obscenities” and accused him of following him. As the victim drove away, Barnes allegedly shot at his car.
The man said he left the area, but when Barnes drove off in the opposite direction, he turned around to get Barnes’ license plate and was shot at again.
Both men ended up in a nearby business parking lot, where the victim ran inside before Barnes allegedly fired at a woman entering the store with a rifle.
Then, Barnes reportedly crossed the street, took cover behind a small wall and fired four or five more rounds, hitting an empty vehicle in the front lot.
No one was injured in the shooting, according to MCSO.
Barnes was transported and booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman on two charges of attempted homicide. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
