DeAndre Swayzer, 36, is charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons in the death of James Lee Critney, 25.
According to officials, officers were called to the area behind Triangle Food Market early on Sept. 19 after Critney was found dead with a gunshot wound.
Detectives later reviewed surveillance video from nearby businesses, which they say showed Critney and Swayzer in a verbal altercation shortly before the shooting. During the argument, Swayzer pulled out a handgun and threatened Critney, according to arrest documents. The two then walked out of the camera’s view, and a single gunshot was heard.
Police said detectives interviewed Swayzer on Friday, Nov. 21. During that interview, investigators say Swayzer admitted to shooting Critney and running from the area.
Swayzer was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
This is a developing investigation.
