CANTON, Mo. (WGEM) – Canton Police Department responded to a report of a physical assault on Saturday at The Smoker’s Pit, located in the 300 block of Lewis Street.
After arriving on scene, Canton Police Chief Tycher Blakely located an unconscious man lying on the floor while a bystander administered CPR. According to CPD, the victim had injuries to the face and was unresponsive.
EMS personnel started treatment on the victim and were about to transport him to a hospital, until he woke up. Police said the victim was still disoriented and in great pain. Another individual reported a possible ankle injury, but refused medical attention, according to CDP.
Police reported multiple witnesses saw David Christopher Arch Jr. involved in the brawl. The witnesses stated that Arch allegedly struck the victim, who fell to the floor, and Arch continued to allegedly assault the victim while he was on the ground.
Witnesses also reported Arch shoved a bystander and had to be physically restrained and removed from the building. According to police, several witnesses reported Arch was visibly intoxicated throughout the evening and had visited multiple bars prior to the incident.
Police reported after obtaining written statements, officers went to Arch’s residence. Arch initially refused to cooperate, but ultimately complied after being persuaded by an acquaintance, according to CPD.
Arch was determined to be the primary physical aggressor and placed under arrest, according to CPD. Arch was charged with one count of second-degree assault, a Class B felony.
Arch remains held at Lewis County Jail.
