LA VERNE, Calif. (KABC) — A young entrepreneur with autism is successfully turning one of his passions into a profitable neighborhood business.
When David Nguyen of La Verne couldn’t find a job, his father said he revisited one of his childhood passions: his obsession with trash trucks.
“We would actually walk with him and follow the trash truck around the neighborhood,” said Anthony Nguyen about his son’s childhood. “That was one of his joys.”
“He loved everything about waste management. We visited various waste management sites, and his favorite toys were all different versions of trash trucks,” he added.
His passion is now turning into a small profit.
Every week he offers to bring his neighbor’s trash cans to the curb for pickup.
“I basically feel great in my heart for doing it for my neighbors,” said David Nguyen, who said he envisions one day becoming a waste management driver.
The 19-year-old’s neighbors, now customers, say not only is he a big help but also an inspiration for others.
“I think it’s amazing,” said neighbor Taylor Allard. “Especially with everything going on in the world, we need more Davids around.”
