LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Store owners across Kentucky are offering special deals and pricing to attract new and returning customers on Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday is a chance to celebrate and support locally owned businesses like The Dog Shop in Louisville.
“The most favorite for the dogs is obviously going to be our treat bar here,” Chris Roark, owner of The Dog Shop, told Spectrum News.
Roark opened The Dog Shop on Market Street in 2021 and is looking forward to introducing his dog-centric duds to shoppers on Small Business Saturday.
“The one thing that we differ from a lot of the pet stores is that we design and create a lot of our apparel that’s in the store,” Roark said.
Up and down Market Street, you’ll find businesses promoting special hours and promotions, hoping to attract holiday shoppers who are looking to support neighborhood ventures.
“We’re hoping that everyone becomes part of our Dog Shop family, we call it. And it’s exciting for our team to be able to take part in that,” Roark said.

One store over is Circa 1856, the satellite tasting room for Chicken Cock Whiskey from Bardstown.
“Absolutely, a lot of people are here for the holidays, so a lot of people are picking up bottles to bring back home, things they can’t find anywhere else,” Drink Specialist Chelsey Bard told Spectrum News.
Bard and staff are excited to reintroduce their space to NULU, formerly Gertie’s.
Of course, NULU is only one neighborhood in a city filled with unique small businesses.
Jennifer Rubenstein is the executive director of the Louisville Independent Business Alliance and plays a big role in promoting Small Business Saturday across Jefferson County.
“Small Business Saturday is an excellent time to get out and celebrate with those businesses who really give your neighborhood its character, or any neighborhood its character. It’s great to visit all over town,” Rubenstein said.
