A Hays business was allegedly scammed out of thousands of dollars after an eBay purchase in November.

Hays Police Lt. Brandon Wright said officers are assisting with an alleged fraud case involving a local business that ordered about $5,000 worth of memory storage cards.

Wright said about 20 memory storage units were ordered about Nov. 25, but when the package arrived on Dec. 5, it allegedly contained a plastic O-ring instead of the cards.

The incident was reported to police on Dec. 16.

Wright said the business is working directly with eBay to resolve the issue. No suspect has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
