HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After a recent peak in the number of calls from local businesses reporting a possible scam, Hartselle Utilities is warning people of what these scammers do.
According to Hartselle Utilities, local businesses are reporting that people claiming to be from Hartselle Utilities are contacting them, telling them to call 888-462-4884 to make a payment, and threatening immediate disconnection of service.
Hartselle Utilities says it follows a strict procedure for overdue accounts. This procedure goes as follows: the first late notice is always mailed, followed by a phone call approximately one week later. Hartselle Utilities never disconnects service immediately.
