BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. — A brush fire at the Gulf State Park has caused closures in the area.

The City of Gulf Shores says Highway 59 is closed from Waterville to Fort Morgan Road due to the fire. Gulf State Park remains closed as well.

Other road closures were listed as follows:

  • East Fort Morgan Rd at Highway 59
  • East 2nd Street south from 15th Ave

Gulf Shore Fire Rescue posted the following video that shows the brush fire far off in the distance.

“If you’re near East 2nd or 20th Ave, please stay alert; traffic lights in that area are functioning intermittently,” the city says.

For safety reasons, businesses located south of East Fort Morgan Road and east of Highway 59 were evacuated.

The following businesses were affected:

  • Regions Bank
  • NAPA Auto Parts
  • Matt’s Ice Cream

Gulf Shores Police shared video of a helicopter dropping water onto the brush fire.

People in the area were told to adhere to these city directives:

  • Avoid the area entirely if possible to let emergency crews work.
  • Use extreme caution if you are already nearby.
  • Expect delays and seek alternate routes.
