JACKSONVILLE, Alabama – A longtime family-owned business in Calhoun County is expanding amid significant growth in demand for its products and services.
Bryant Machine Co. is investing $3.26 million in the project, which includes 12 new jobs, a new 22,000-square-foot facility and machining equipment.
The company specializes in high-quality turning, milling, assembly and engineering services for a variety of industries.
Donald Bryant started the company in 1979 as a small family shop with big ambitions, said his grandson, Kirklin Childs, chief operating officer and vice president of Bryant Machine. “We’ve carried that same spirit forward for more than four decades, growing alongside the Calhoun County community that has always supported us,” he said.
The expansion is expected to help the family business remain at the forefront of precision manufacturing.
Over the past year, Bryant Machine’s sales have increased 250 percent, while its workforce has grown by 150 percent, driving the need for the new facility.
“This milestone highlights Bryant Machine’s long-standing commitment to innovation, investment and creation of high-quality jobs,” said Don Hopper, executive director of the Calhoun County Economic Development Council.
“Their success not only strengthens the roots here in Calhoun County but also highlights the important role family-owned businesses play in sustaining and growing our community’s economy.”
The Bryant Machine expansion also adds to the roster of recent economic development success for Calhoun County.
Just last month, Wellborn Cabinet celebrated the opening of its new Calhoun County plant in Oxford.
According to the Alabama Department of Commerce’s 2024 New and Expanding Industry Report, Calhoun County landed seven projects last year for a total $12.7 million investment and 98 jobs. The projects included six expansions.
“It is always exciting to see homegrown businesses thrive in our state,” said Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “Here in Alabama, companies find a culture of innovation, a dedicated workforce and outstanding community support that help them achieve ambitious goals.”
