GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) -A local catering business is keeping holiday traditions alive by feeding neighbors and spreading cheer throughout the community.
Hidden Hickory Catering in Glasgow was established in 2021 by business owner Nichole Walden and her husband.
That year when the holiday season came around, the Walden’s decided to give back by giving out 30 free meals to community members on Thanksgiving.
“We start collecting names and addresses of folks who may be on their own for the holiday. They may be going through hard times, we know that the way the economy is, there’s lots of people that struggle,” said Walden.
Since then, giving out plates on Thanksgiving has become a tradition for the family.
“In 2021 when we gave out 30 plates and we thought that was just the grandest thing,” said Walden. “It could’ve been 30 people that wouldn’t of had a home cooked meal that day. And then it grew the next year and grew the next year and this year we did 367 deliveries.”
The business doesn’t just give back on Thanksgiving. It helps the community year-round, including providing food to first responders and essential workers who respond during storms.
“The urge to fill bellies and feed people, comes so naturally. I want everybody to feel like their included, whether you’re sitting at my table or your table. If you’ve got something that’s cooked with love it’s just one more thing that’ll bring people together,” said Walden.
The catering business hopes to continue the tradition of giving food to community members on Thanksgiving, as well as doing it more throughout the year in the future.
