Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for March.

MarketBeat

MarketBeat has announced its first quarter community giving, supporting 12 nonprofits and initiatives across the Sioux Falls area. This quarter’s efforts focused on key community needs, including health care access, education, conservation and inclusive programming. MarketBeat team members also volunteered at St. Francis House, packing sack lunches and serving hot meals for individuals experiencing homelessness. Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation

The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation has announced its latest rounds of Community Fund grants, totaling more than $121,000 in support for local nonprofits and causes. For the first quarter, grants were awarded to Center of Hope, LifeScape, Midwest Street Medicine, Minnehaha County’s Human Services Department, The Premiere Playhouse, Sioux Council of Scouting America, SculptureWalk, Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma Club, Sioux Falls Family YMCA, Sioux Falls School District Community Learning Centers and Solace. Community Fund grants are made possible by the Community Fund Endowment, supported by unrestricted gifts. For details on the projects and grants, visit here.

The Human Bean

The Human Bean donated 10 percent of sales from March 21 – almost $400 — to Evermore Blooms, a local organization that provides support to moms who have experienced a miscarriage.

Hy-Vee

This April, more than 100 Hy-Vee stores across the Midwest, including those in Sioux Falls, are offering A1C screenings at a reduced price. Purchase one test for $15 or two for $20 to share with a family member or save for later. Testing usually costs $45 per person. Customers can request an appointment on this webpage. The blood sugar screenings are available at a reduced price while supplies last and are provided in partnership with Abbott, Dave’s Killer Bread, Embecta and Olipop.

JJ’s Kicks 4 Kids

JJ’s Kicks 4 Kids delivered 292 pairs of new shoes and 417 pairs of new socks to the Children’s Home Society. Jaren Fountain’s family and the staff at Orthopedic Institute began the fundraiser after he died in a car crash in 2020 and have donated 1,500 pairs of shoes for children at CHS since then.

Movers for Moms

Movers for Moms is collecting new and gently used clothing and essential self-care and comfort items through May 5 for women entering the workforce and rebuilding their lives. The effort is coordinated locally by Two Men and a Truck, and the items will go to EmBe’s Dress for Success program. To see a list of drop-off spots, click here.
