Quinn Barr is the owner and operator of Quinn’s Coffee Bar, a traveling café that serves areas across Dauphin and Lancaster counties.
Like other food trucks, she relies on both gasoline and diesel to run her business.
“A food truck is run like a restaurant and a vehicle at the same time. So, in my case, my diesel runs all my equipment inside, but gasoline gets me from point A to point B,” Barr said.
According to recent data from AAA, the average price of diesel in Pennsylvania is nearly $6 per gallon.
The average price of gasoline is nearly $4 per gallon.
As prices continue to surge, small business owners, including Barr, say they’re feeling stretched thin.
“My food truck friends and I talk about all different angles of the business, and this with the increase in diesel and gasoline definitely affects our bottom line,” Barr said.
Barr’s prices haven’t changed for now.
What has changed, however, is how much time she spends at each location, limiting how much fuel she uses each day.
“I do try to stay in the Harrisburg area versus going out to places like Chambersburg or Lancaster. Those are about an hour each way,” Barr said.
Barr is hopeful she won’t have to raise prices, but says she’s prepared to do so if relief doesn’t come soon.
“I’m really hoping and praying that prices do decrease, like everybody hopes.”
