A Sioux Falls-based fintech company is holding a competition for small businesses with a $25,000 prize.

Expansion Capital Group is seeking nominations in the Sioux Falls area for its Small Business Spotlight contest to award funding to a business that has made a significant impact on the community.

The winner will receive $25,000 to help support future growth.

“Sioux Falls isn’t just where we work — it’s the community that built us,” CEO Tim Mages said. “We see the grit and passion of small-business owners every day. This contest is our way of saying thank you to the local heroes who keep our city vibrant and growing. We want to provide more than just financial support — we want to celebrate their stories.”

Community members and business owners can submit nominations here and are asked to include the following information:

  • The name and mission of the small business.
  • How the business has served the Sioux Falls community.
  • How the $25,000 prize will help the business reach its goals.

The deadline for nominations is April 15.

The Small Business Spotlight is open to any registered small business operating within greater Sioux Falls and the surrounding area. A panel of judges from Expansion Capital Group and the local business community will review the entries based on community impact, the business’ story and the potential for the funds to make a meaningful difference.

The winner will be announced May 1.

“Small businesses in the greater Sioux Falls area do not always need a massive investment round,” said Brienne Maner, president of Startup Sioux Falls.

“Often, they need targeted growth capital to hire key talent, invest in customer acquisition or bridge a temporary cash flow gap. A $25,000 infusion deployed with intention can shift a company’s trajectory, strengthen local job creation and accelerate its path toward long-term sustainability in our region.”
