Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories plans to break ground this spring on a $147 million expansion that will add biopharmaceutical testing labs and office space.
Construction on the connected five- and six-story lab and office buildings is expected to begin in May on the company’s Upper Leacock Township campus.
The company provides testing services for bio-pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical companies.
The project is expected to add 250 new jobs at the 2425-2430 New Holland Pike campus, which currently employs about 3,000 people.
The project is in line to receive $2.1 million in state grants, which were announced in December when Gov. Josh Shapiro visited with company officials at the site.
“As one of Lancaster County’s largest employers, we are proud to expand our capacity and services for our global clients while offering outstanding career opportunities,” Neal Salerno, senior vice president of Eurofins BioPharma Product Testing, said during the event.
The Upper Leacock Township Supervisors approved plans for the project during a meeting earlier this month.
With a combined footprint of 300,000 square feet, the buildings represent the campus’ largest expansion to date. They will replace an existing surface parking lot and connect to another lab/office building on the campus.
In 2019, when that building was completed, Salerno told the American Pharmaceutical Review that it was designed to accommodate a future 300,000-square foot expansion. Since then, Eurofins has added an eight-story parking garage on the campus with 1,249 spaces.
Founded in 1961, the company has more than doubled the size of its workforce and Upper Leacock Township campus since it was acquired by Luxembourg-based Eurofins in 2011. The expansion makes it the largest site in Eurofins’ global network of laboratories.
