Dan Karam, ’97, MSIT ’01, has formalised a $250,000 endowment agreement to establish the Karam Executive in Residence Program in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business.

The funding will support the professional activities of the college’s executive in residence faculty members. It also will provide full-time, fixed-term faculty with funding support for professional development programs, global immersion participation and academic fellowships.

Karam, the executive in residence in the Alvarez College of Business, said creating the endowment was extremely important to him.

“The program will create a pipeline for seasoned professionals in the community to come to UT San Antonio and offer their knowledge and skills to enhance and educate the next generation of business professionals,” he said.

Jonathon Halbesleben, dean of the Alvarez College of Business, said the gift will make it possible to recruit seasoned executives like Karam to teach at the university and support a new chapter in their careers.

“The gift represents the first-ever endowment to provide sustained support for faculty who bring their extensive work experience into the classroom,” Halbesleben said. “It will help the college create a portfolio of faculty that includes cutting-edge researchers working alongside faculty with deep industry experience.”

Karam returned to his alma mater following a successful career in information technology that included 13 years at USAA and another 13 years as chief information officer and partner at MUY! Companies before retiring when the company was sold to new ownership.

“This program is also a direct reflection of my specific path within the second half of my career journey,” Karam said. “I have firsthand knowledge and experience about how much this role has impacted me, and how my professional background allows me to better guide and mentor Alvarez College of Business students.”

Business executives considering a career change and interested in a role in the college can reach out to Halbesleben at [email protected] for more information on the Karam Executive in Residence Program.
