As we reflect on the Thanksgiving weekend, KETV would like to encourage you to support local businesses.Saturday was “Small Business Saturday.”It’s an effort started back in 2010 to make sure small businesses didn’t get lost in the convenience of online ordering.Two years ago, it’s estimated that shoppers spent $17 billion with small businesses on Small Business Saturday.It shouldn’t stop there.Analysts from the Greater Omaha Chamber say for every $100 spent at a local retail business, $48 stays in the local economy.That’s compared to only $14 for a retail chain.You may not have time to stroll through local shops to find the perfect gift.There are other ways to support local.Buy a gift card so the recipient can pick out their gift later.Or a gift card to a local restaurant.Remember, that money spent with local businesses is an investment in our community.
