DRAPER — Several businesses in Draper that were shut down Saturday due to a sewer line break have been cleared to resume operations now that repairs are complete.
Crews from the Jordan Basin Improvement District worked overnight and throughout the day to find and fix the problem that caused a sewage backup at 12191 S. State Street. They finished the job just after 8:30 p.m., according to Nicholas Rupp, spokesman for the Salt Lake County Health Department.
It all began about 9 p.m. on Friday, when health department officials responded to a report of a sewage backup at the location and found sewage spilling into a nearby storm drain, Rupp said.
Crews worked through the night but were unable to clear the line by Saturday morning. “Due to the amount of gravel and debris backing up in the sewer line, Jordan Basin believes the line is damaged (broken or collapsed), so repair could take several hours to days,” a statement from the health department said.
In response, the health department asked several businesses in the Draper Peaks shopping center at 201 E. 123000 South to temporarily close or just close their restrooms.
Rupp said repair crews located a break in the sewer line at about 4 p.m. and began repairs immediately. After the work was completed Saturday night, Rupp issued a statement saying, “Affected businesses may resume normal operations.”
Café Zupas, In-N-Out, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, Wasabi and Wing Nutz were all temporarily closed. Beadology, Deseret Book, Elase, Mountain America Credit Union, Office Depot, Quilted Bear, Restore Hyper Wellness, Walking Comfort, and Xfinity remained open Saturday but had their restrooms closed.
No homes were impacted by the temporary closure.
