A new sushi and teriyaki restaurant has opened on South First Street, and judging by the crowds inside and vehicles parked outside the past two weeks, it’s off to a good start.

Dragon Sushi and Teriyaki had its grand opening on Dec. 22 and is open for lunch and dinner six days a week (closed Tuesdays). It’s at 1801 S. First St., on the southeast corner of the intersection with Mead in the former Burger Ranch building.

The menu includes a variety of teriyaki dishes with different meats; yakisoba Japanese noodles; stir fry and fried rice entrees; and a few American items such as burgers, salads and desserts.

On the sushi menu are more than three dozen rolls, a variety of sushi and sashimi items, and bento box combinations. Appetizers include tempura choices, soft shell crab, egg and spring rolls, baked mussels and deep fried calamari.

The dining area has been remodeled and offers sit-down service with wait staff and menus. Food also may be ordered to-go at the counter, and a drive-thru is available.

A complete menu and more details about Dragon Sushi and Teriyaki is available on the restaurant’s Facebook page, or call 509-571-1010.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays.

Chamber building update

Another sign, literally, indicates the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce might not move into the former Lin-Paul building in downtown Yakima.

A sign in the window of the vacant storefront at Third Street and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way indicates the building, which the chamber bought a year ago, is listed for sale again.

Kristi Foster, president and CEO of the chamber, told the Yakima Herald-Republic in October that construction had paused at the former formalwear shop due to escalating costs of renovating the structure. Foster said chamber board members wanted to reassess their options.

At that time, the organization asked the city to remain in its building at 10 N. Ninth St., paying $1,200 per month to the city to lease the facility.
