Today, Business Insider debuts Well Spent, a video podcast on the business, technology, and culture of consumerism. The vodcast is hosted by Business Insider senior correspondent Katie Notopoulos, who is known for her curiosity and deep expertise in tech, internet culture, and economics. In each episode, Notopoulos will explore complicated questions about something everyone loves talking about: buying stuff — what we buy, how we pay, and why we want it.
The first episode of Well Spent features Amanda Pendleton, Zillow’s Home Trends Expert, discussing why buying a house feels so hard for Gen Z and Millennials. The second episode will air on November 18, 2025, and feaure Pink Palm Puff, the viral sweatshirt taking over TikTok feeds and high school hallways, and the 17-year-old CEO behind the craze. The 45-minute episodes include insights from Business Insider real estate correspondent James Rodriguez, senior correspondent Emily Stewart, and deputy executive producer A. C. Fowler, to answer the series’ central question — why do we spend the way we do.
“My favorite stories to write — and to read on Business Insider — are the ones about some new insight into some new trend or shift in the way that people are buying things,” Katie Notopoulos said. “Those are always the stories I want to keep talking about with my colleagues or my friends. That’s what I wanted to bring to Well Spent — those stories where how we shop and buy tells us something bigger about technology or economics in our world.”
Notopoulos brings extensive experience as Business Insider’s senior correspondent covering stories on AI, social media, Big Tech, parenting, and retail. Previously, she was a tech reporter at BuzzFeed News and has written for The Atlantic, The New York Times, Fast Company, and MIT Technology Review.
