MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) – Lexington’s mayor is announcing a longtime business in the small McLean County city is expanding by building a new factory and hiring more workers.
Mayor Spencer Johansen said Group Tool Inc. is moving from its current site on Spencer Street to a new 100,000 square foot facility on Wirtz Way.
The mayor said construction will start soon. Group Tool, which specializes in injection and compression molding, will be looking to hire about 20 workers in addition to nearly 40 people employed there now, he said.
“This expansion supports growing demand, strengthens advanced manufacturing, and brings new skilled jobs to our area,” said Johansen. “We are proud to see Group Tool continue its long-term commitment to our community.”
Group Tool has had a factory in Lexington since 1985.
“This company is a hidden gem, I think, for the amount of products they turn out,” the mayor said.
“At Group Tool, Inc., we specialize in injection and compression molding, delivering high-quality plastic components for industries that demand precision, reliability, and performance,” the company’s website said.
Group Tool is owned by Pioneer Plastics, which has locations in Eagan, Minnesota and China.
