Skagit Farmers Supply says a suspect spent more than an hour at its pumps before leaving with more than $3,000 in diesel.

BURLINGTON, Wash — Skagit Farmers Supply says someone stole about 500 gallons of diesel worth more than $3,000 from its Burlington fuel station, and Burlington police are investigating.

The reported theft happened the night of March 12 at Skagit Farmers Supply at 1276 S. Burlington Blvd. in Burlington.

Ryan Nootenboom of Skagit Farmers Supply said workers noticed Friday morning, March 13, that the station’s diesel inventory did not match what had been on hand the night before.

He said staff checked sales transactions, credit card swipes and fuel card purchases but did not find anything suspicious.

After reviewing security video, the business said it saw a suspicious white box truck parked at the fuel pumps for more than an hour.

According to Nootenboom, the truck arrived around 8:30 p.m. Thursday and left around 10 p.m.

Nootenboom said the suspect was able to activate the pumps without any sales transaction, card swipe or visible damage.

“It appears he knows what he is doing and used a device to active the fuel pumps, pump 500 gallons of diesel and left no trace,” Nootenboom told KING 5 News. “No card swipe, no damage, nothing.”

The business described the suspect as a slim white man between 35 and 50 years old with short hair and a black hooded coat.

The vehicle was described as a very unusual white Isuzu truck with black roof coverings, no doors on the box, small damage on the passenger side of the box, no Department of Transportation number, no logos and license plate covers.

Nootenboom said the truck appeared to have a 500-gallon diesel tank inside and could be filled from the outside through an access hatch.

He also said the driver left the parking lot heading south while using a phone for directions.

KING 5 News has reached out to the Burlington Police Department for more information.
