The owner of Lotz of BBQ said his food truck was stolen and recovered on Dec. 26, 2024.
AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin business owner said it’s been almost a year without any arrests after his food truck was stolen and recovered.
Roy Lotz owns the food truck known as, “Lotz of BBQ.” Lotz said it was stolen from the GhostLine Kitchens parking lot in southeast Austin on Dec. 26 2024.
While it was recovered days later in Elgin by Bastrop County deputies through a tip sent to the Austin Police Department, Lotz still lives in fear of another theft occurring.
“I would rather be at peace instead of feeling like I could be targeted again so easily,” Lotz, who is deaf, said through an interpreter.
Since then, Lotz has moved his trailer to a secure location and was able to reopen his business in May with the help of the community through a GoFundMe.
In January, APD said the men behind the crime appeared to be in a dark green Ford F-150 and that there is an up to $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Surveillance video provided to KVUE showed a pickup truck driving off with the trailer in the middle of the night.
Lotz said he has contacted APD repeatedly to no avail.
“It’s been a year now, and I feel like we really need to expedite the process because I’m continually nervous if this is going to happen again,” said Lotz. “I feel like they do need to try harder, that they haven’t tried hard enough, you know? And I understand they always say they have too many cases and I recognize that, but this has been a year now when I feel like I’ve been patient enough.”
KVUE reached out to APD on Saturday, but did not receive a response at the time of publication. KVUE will contact the department again on Monday.
