Amazon is investing over one billion euros in the Belgian market over the next three years. The American company aims to improve the customer experience for Belgian shoppers and help small and medium-sized businesses grow both domestically and internationally.
This marks Amazon’s largest investment in Belgium to date, supporting jobs, infrastructure development, and Belgian partnerships, including with bpost. The investment amount will be spread over the years 2025 through 2027.
For shoppers and ecommerce businesses
Both Belgian consumers and companies are set to benefit from this investment. Eva Faict, Country Manager for Amazon Belgium and the Netherlands, states: “Our planned investment of more than a billion euros in Belgium will go towards expanding our logistics network, enhancing our delivery capabilities, and strengthening our local infrastructure to better serve Belgian customers.”
‘We’re strengthening our local infrastructure’
Faict further explains: “This new investment will allow us to further support Belgian entrepreneurs with our technology and expertise, while continuing to offer customers low prices, wider product selection, and faster delivery options.”
Amazon in Belgium
Since 2015, Amazon claims to have contributed more than 350 million euros to Belgium’s GDP. The contribution has been particularly significant in recent years, as Amazon has been focusing on the Belgian market with a dedicated website for the past three years. Last year, its contribution to GDP was estimated at 140 million euros.
In October 2022, Amazon launched Amazon.com.be for the Belgian market, which was previously served by sites in France, the Netherlands, and Germany. In the same month, Amazon opened its first logistics centre in the country, in Antwerp.
Ecommerce in Belgium
Ecommerce in Belgium is highly internationalized, with foreign companies dominating the market. Amazon primarily competes with large online players from the Netherlands, such as bol and Coolblue.

Through Amazon, smaller and medium-sized online sellers in Belgium can also expand beyond their own borders, the company emphasizes. In the past three years, Amazon has helped more than a thousand Belgian businesses reach new customers.
Amazon and the European Economy
Amazon regularly announces how much it invests in and contributes to international markets, both at a national and continental level. Last year, the company claimed to have invested 55 billion euros in the European economy, contributing 41 billion euros to the European gross domestic product (GDP). Amazon employs hundreds of thousands of permanent employees across the continent.
