HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – A barbershop in the Friendly City is voicing concerns after several recent car accidents at a nearby busy intersection; including some that involve a vehicle of their own.
Last Friday, Aj’s Gentlemen’s Barbershop’s branded pickup truck was hit by a vehicle for the second time in just under a year, with five total accidents having taken place at the intersection next to the barbershop.
Aj Jalal, founder and CEO of Aj’s Gentlemen’s Barbershop, said being so close to the traffic light, combined with the number of accidents that have occurred over the past year, the barbershop has seen firsthand just how dangerous the intersection can be.
“It’s pretty alarming that this could get worse, or this could continue or end up hurting someone,” Jalal said.
Jalal added that many of those accidents come from drivers cutting through the parking lot to South Main St. from South Ave.
“A lot of people go through this parking lot to avoid going through the traffic light to get to South Main Street, and so that happens a lot, putting a lot more traffic going through the parking lot, unnecessary traffic,” Jalal said.
However, Jalal and his staff hope that the officials at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be able to analyze the intersection’s activity and make the necessary changes to ensure the safety of businesses and drivers passing by.
“I think it’s our job to reach out and give them feedback as citizens of Harrisonburg,” Jalal said.
